Custom Hoodie Printing That Survives Every Winter

A hoodie is a bigger investment than a t-shirt, and people keep them for years, so custom hoodie printing deserves more thought than picking a colour and emailing a logo. Fabric weight, print method and sizing all pull on the final result, and getting them wrong is expensive.

Fabric weight is the first decision

Hoodie fleece is sold by weight, and that number tells you most of what you need to know. Lighter fleece is comfortable in a Durban spring and easier on the budget, which suits event and promotional runs. Heavier fleece feels substantial, holds its shape through repeated washing and photographs far better, which is what you want for matric hoodies or kit people will wear for years.

Brushed inner fleece is softer and warmer. Unbrushed loopback is lighter and less prone to bobbling. There is no universally correct answer, so tell us where and when the hoodies will be worn and we will point you at the sensible option.

Print methods that work on thick fleece

Fleece is textured, which is the main technical challenge in custom hoodie printing and the reason some hoodie prints look fuzzy. Screen printing handles it well when the design has a limited number of colours, and it is the most economical route once quantities climb, because the cost per garment drops after the screens are made.

DTF printing is excellent for full-colour artwork, gradients and detailed logos on fleece, and it carries no minimum, so a single hoodie is a perfectly normal order. Heat transfer vinyl suits names, numbers, years and single-colour lettering, which is why it does so much of the work on personalised class and squad hoodies.

Matric, team and staff hoodies

Matric and class hoodies usually combine a printed front design with individual names on the back, which is a straightforward mix of screen or DTF for the artwork and vinyl for the personalisation. Sports clubs tend to want the crest on the chest and a squad number or surname behind.

Staff hoodies are simpler: a clean chest logo, sometimes a back print, in colours that sit with the brand. Whatever the use, order a single sample first if your timeline allows. There is no minimum on DTF and vinyl, so testing one garment before a bulk run costs very little.

Sizing, artwork and placing custom hoodie printing orders

Hoodie sizing runs differently to t-shirts, and a hoodie meant to be worn over other layers needs room. Collect sizes from the actual wearers rather than guessing from an old t-shirt order, and build in a few spares in the middle sizes, because that is where late requests always land.

For artwork, vector files such as EPS or PDF are ideal, though a high-resolution image works. You will get a digital proof showing placement and scale before we print. Expect a few working days from artwork approval, plus courier time, and pay by EFT with a deposit on larger runs.
